Minimum depth in approaches: 11m
Tidal Range: Springs 1.9m, Neaps .3m
Channel width: 50m over about 80m length
Channel and entrance are rock and are marked with buoys and range lights. There are no bridges or power cables across channel and harbour enterance.
Weather Conditions
Winds normally out of W & NW and do not interfere with port entry. SE & SW winds are the most problematic for channel entry and docking, but the probability of these occurring are only 3% . Fog can also affect Navigation
Berths
Two berths are available:
Carson Dock 122m long, 7.6m depth at MLWST. Height above water 2.5m @ MLWST.
Tendering: Cylindrical rubber abt .75m dia Vertical @ 20-25m centres. Four in all.
Coastal Dock 195m long, 7.6m depth at MLWST. Height above water 2.5m @ MLWST.
Tendering: Tinker breasting panels abt 1.5m width full depth of dock at about 20m centres.
Security
Docks are secure with controlled entry. Guards are available.
Gangways
Ships to use own Gangways.
Baggage Handling
$120.00/hour
Gang of 6 men. Minimum 3 hours if called.
