TOWN OF CHANNEL - PORT AUX BASQUES
Water Filtration & Treatment Plant Operator I
The Town of Channel - Port aux Basques has one (1) opening for a full time permanent Water Filtration & Treatment Plant Operator I. The operator will assist the Water Filtration & Treatment Plant Operator II in the day-to-day operations of the Water Treatment Plant.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate and monitor SCADA systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment
processes to regulate the treatment and distribution of potable water.
Read flow meters, gauges and recording instruments to measure water output and consumption
Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to ensure all plant systems operate normally.
Perform various lab tasks including jar testing, uv-254 monitoring, pH, chlorine and other related tests.
Analyse test results and instrument readings, and make adjustments to plant equipment as required.
Complete and maintain plant logs and reports.
Make repairs, or make arrangements to have repairs completed, on all equipment in and around the Water Treatment Plant.
Follow a preventive maintenance schedule.
Be capable of working in confined spaces and at heights.
Work a rotating schedule, which includes weekdays, weekends, and being on call.
Other duties as required.
A related trade is a requirement of the position. This includes, but is not limited to, plumbing, pipefitting, refrigeration or mechanical.
This is a very technical position within the organization and is therefore, very reliant upon a strong background. It is required that the successful candidate be well versed in the application of water treatment and distribution techniques and have a minimum 3 years experience.
The successful candidate will also be certified as a Level 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator or be willing to obtain the necessary certification within a prescribed timeframe.
Salary and benefits as per the Collective Agreement.
