The Railway Heritage Museum proudly honours the legacy of Lauchie McDougall, the legendary “human wind gauge” whose remarkable ability to predict the fierce Wreckhouse winds helped protect travellers and save lives. His story—alongside the mystery of the two rare Mushrow Astrolabes—forms the heart of this unique exhibit.
Residents and visitors can now explore this history through a special video feature produced by Tourism Southwest NL. In it, Lauchie’s grandson, Lockie MacDougall, shares firsthand stories that bring this extraordinary local heritage to life.
