Community Facilities

Channel-Port aux Basques has many developed recreation facilities in addition to the Bruce II Sports Centre. The community also boasts a baseball/softball field, soccer pitch, skateboard park and basketball court. These additional amenities provide nearly all sporting enthusiasts an outlet for their favorite pastime. All these community recreation facilities are available at any time to residents of the community free of charge.

Scott's Cove Park

Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the harbour boardwalk to Scott’s Cove Park. The route along the boardwalk is marked by colour flags shaped like ships and sails. At the park visit “The Village” which consists of a ship amphitheatre surrounded by quaint little shops modeled on typical outport fishing stages. At the heart of the community, Scott’s Cove is a lively area of town with gift shops that have some of the best Newfoundland souvenirs and snack bars, as well as live nightly entertainment during the summer.

  • Scott’s Cove Park will open on June 15 to September 15
  • Local Entertainment from Monday to Thursday from 7:00-9:00 pm.

Baseball / Softball Field

The local softball field has been host to many softball tournaments including men’s, female, co-ed and high school. The field is open to the public any time residents feel like hitting or throwing around the ball.

Soccer Pitch

This is the site of the former Lou Hardwick baseball diamond, which has been converted to a new soccer pitch. With lush natural grass, the field can be used for a big game of soccer, American football or simply to kick around the ball.

Skateboard Park

With an increase in skateboarding by local youth, the Town converted a former tennis court in to park for skaters. The park located in the Newtown area of Town has become a popular hangout for skateboarders during the summer months.

Basketball Court

Having produced provincial championship basketball teams, the sport has always been a popular for residents of the community. During the summer months when the local schools are not in session, locals make great use of the public basketball courts located on Bay Street. The court has two regulation size nets, complete with a paved surface and bleachers.
