Channel-Port aux Basques has many developed recreation facilities in addition to the Bruce II Sports Centre. The community also boasts a baseball/softball field, soccer pitch, skateboard park and basketball court. These additional amenities provide nearly all sporting enthusiasts an outlet for their favorite pastime. All these community recreation facilities are available at any time to residents of the community free of charge.
Recreational All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are permitted to access designated routes within the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques.

Our community softball field has long been a lively gathering place in Channel‑Port aux Basques. Over the years, it has hosted a wide range of tournaments. When tournaments aren’t underway, the field is open for public use.
Residents and visitors alike are welcome to stop by anytime to toss a ball around, practice their swing, or enjoy a casual game with friends. It’s an easy, relaxed way to get outside and enjoy a classic pastime in the heart of our town.
With its lush natural grass and open layout, the soccer pitch is a popular spot for residents and visitors looking to get active. The field is designed for flexible use, making it suitable for a full
game of soccer or simply kicking a ball around with friends. Whether you’re joining an organized match or enjoying a casual afternoon outdoors, the soccer pitch offers a relaxed, accessible space for all to enjoy.
With skateboarding growing in popularity among local youth, the Town transformed a former tennis court into a dedicated space for skaters.
Located in the Newtown area, the skateboard park has become a popular hangout during the summer months, offering a safe and accessible spot for riders to practice their skills and enjoy time outdoors.
Basketball has long been a favourite sport in Channel‑Port aux Basques. During the summer months, when local schools are not in session, residents make great use of the public basketball courts on Bay Street.
The court features two regulation‑size nets, a paved playing surface, and nearby bleachers—providing a comfortable and accessible space for players and spectators alike.
Welcome to Port aux Basques, the official starting point of the Newfoundland T’Railway Provincial Park and the western gateway to one of the island’s greatest adventures. From here, 883 kilometres of former railbed stretch across Newfoundland—from our rugged coastline and windswept barrens all the way to the capital city of St. John’s on the far eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula.
The T’Railway, officially designated a provincial park in 1997, transforms Newfoundland’s historic railway into a multi‑use, all‑season trail that invites exploration. Its development has been a true province‑wide effort, shaped by the T’Railway Council, all levels of government, local communities, and the Trans Canada Trail Foundation.
Trail upgrades began in the mid‑1990s, with early work in Central Newfoundland and along the historic rail corridor in St. John’s. Here on the west coast, improvements also began on the dramatic Wreckhouse Trail—famous for its powerful winds and sweeping views of the Anguille and Long Range Mountains.
