Mayor’s Message

Greetings from the Gateway to Newfoundland! Welcome to our beautiful Town and home, Channel-Port aux Basques. Our town is the entrance to this beautiful province and has a rich history in the fishing, railway and ferry industry. I invite you to stop by our railway heritage center and take an interpretive tour and discover the history of this unique and beautiful community.

Known for its rugged shores, you will also find our breath-taking beaches and scenic trails while you explore around the community. Take an evening stroll along our waterfront and enjoy Scott’s Cove Park for its local traditional music and while there check out the shopping and food at the local kiosks.

Come join us in the fall and winter to take advantage of our first-class multi-purpose centre. The Bruce II Sports Centre offers a variety of activities such as swimming, bowling, skating, curling, walking track and fitness centre. Winter brings us snow, but enjoy the outdoors with snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. If it’s spring, summer, fall or winter our community will keep you enjoying all seasons.

Our town is known for its hospitality, friendliness and as Canada’s most Autism friendly community. I’m proud of our town and I invite you to visit and discover what a warm and friendly community Channel-Port aux Basques is and what it has to offer. The welcome mat is out for you!

Mayor Brian Button
