Welcome to the Town of Channel – Port aux Basques, or as we like to call it, The Gateway to Newfoundland. Our quaint and charming community is the entrance to a pristine province full of beauty that is rich in history and culture. While here, I invite you to soak up the fishing history which is the foundation that this community was built on along with the railway and ferry services. These industries helped to build and shape this community.

We are known for some of the most beautiful beaches and trails on the island. If you are in the Grand Bay West area please take in a walk along the beaches and connect to the trail that leads to the wooded path. If you are in our downtown area, you can take a walk along our public wharf and Scott’s Cove Park. It’s a treat to hear the live music playing here and watch the Ferry dock. Even after living here the majority of my life, it still takes my breath to watch the ferry come in along our beautiful shorelines.

When it comes to sports in this community we don’t play around! We have a beautiful soccer field located downtown, a softball field in Grand Bay, several playgrounds and a multi-purpose center that can keep families entertained all day! Our Bruce II Sports Center houses a swimming pool, a bowling alley, ice rink, curling rink, walking track and fitness center. If you are lucky to be here during a hockey game you can enjoy a plate of fries and hear me over the speaker announcing the game! Go Blaze Go!

Channel – Port aux Basques is known for much more than just its beautiful scenery, we have a rich culture, traditions, and hospitality.
